Dr Lai Shin-Yuan
Minister, Mainland Affairs Council
Dr. Lai Shin-Yuan is an inspiration to Sussex students. An expert on foreign policy and trade relations, she has held a number of positions in academia, has been a Senior Advisor to the National Security Council and was a chief negotiator during Taiwan's accession to the WTO. Since 2008, Dr Lai has been a key figure in cross-Strait negotiations as Minister, Mainland Affairs Council. She completed her MPhil and DPhil at Sussex within the world-renowned Institute for Development Studies.
