Collaborative Doctoral Studentships
The deadline for Sussex supervisors to apply for Sussex Collaborative Doctoral Studentships for 2017-8 is 5th June 2017
In order to commit remaining funding for studentships starting in the academic year 2017-8, there will now be a deadline of 5th June 2017 for supervisors to apply to the Sussex Collaborative Scholarships Scheme.
The Collaborative Doctoral Studentships initiative aims to promote and facilitate doctoral research in partnership with non-academic partners – from the private, public or third sector. It is designed to assist in the development of lasting research partnerships and to promote the recruitment of high quality doctoral candidates.
The funding can cover any discipline and would suit situations in which a supervisor is developing links with a company, government body or charity who are able to part-fund a studentship. So far, the scheme has part-funded studentships in Informatics, Social Work, Geography,SPRU, Life Sciences and History.
Projects would normally be expected to begin in September 2017 and run for 36 to 48 months, but it will also be possible to start later in the year.
University funding will provide match funding equal to the contribution made by the external partner - up to 50% of the costs of the studentship.
The funding does not cover supervisor time or overheads (estates and indirect costs) but will match any PhD stipends, fees and student research and training expenses (consumables, travel, conferences fees) offered by external partners.
