University of Sussex ranked 18th in The Times and Sunday Times league table
Ranked number one in South East for graduate job prospects.
The University of Sussex has been ranked 18th in the UK in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017.
Sussex achieved the top ranking in the South East, and fifth in the country, for best graduate job prospects, which has helped it rise one place in the overall rankings and retain its spot in the UK’s top 20.
This completes a hat trick of top-20 positions for Sussex in major national league tables this year, after ranking 18th in the Complete University Guide and 20th in the Guardian’s table.
On hearing the news this morning (Friday 23 September), Adam Tickell, the University’s Vice-Chancellor, said: “This shows that you can have an intellectually exciting university experience and also set yourself up for an enjoyable and fulfilling career.
“At Sussex we believe in both, and we’ve invested heavily in both, so it’s fantastic to see we’re striking the right balance.”
In recent years, Sussex has expanded its study abroad programme, negotiated new internships both in the UK and around the world, made its career services far more high profile across campus, and increased the number of scholarships to help students to participate in postgraduate education.
The result of these initiatives has seen 86 per cent of Sussex graduates moving into graduate-level jobs or studies within months of leaving university – the best record in the South East.
Improved student satisfaction scores, including huge investment in the Library and IT, have also contributed to the rise.
Adam Tickell added: “There has been a lot of fantastic work done in nearly all areas of the University to make sure that our students are able to get the very most out of their time with us, and once they leave us. I want to thank everyone here at the University for their efforts.”
The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide says it provides the most comprehensive overview of higher education in Britain and is used by prospective university students to decide where to study.
It will be published over three days, beginning with a 60-page supplement in The Sunday Times (25 September).
