E-submission service enhancements released

Further developments of the E-submission and E-feedback system were completed over the summer and, for this academic year, the service now includes:

  • support for assessments on all levels, from foundation year to taught postgraduate,
  • an improved interface to make it easier for students to keep track of submissions in Study Direct,
  • support for a wider variety of file types and assessments.

The service was introduced for first-year undergraduate courses in September 2014, since when it has been steadily extended to cover more types and levels of assessment. The service is closely integrated into existing systems such as Study Direct and custom-designed for staff and students at Sussex.

See the IT Services web page for more details.

A27 resurfacing at Falmer

Highways England have informed the University of road works on the A27 at Falmer between the junction with the B2123 and Hollingbury. It involves resurfacing as well as replacing road markings and road studs.

Work started on 3 October and will last for three weeks - to be completed by Monday 17 October, assuming reasonable weather conditions. The work will take place overnight between 8pm until 6am, weeknights only; however, if required weekends will be used as a contingency.

In order to carry out these works, full carriageway closures will be in place in one direction at a time between the B2123 and Hollingbury Interchange. The dates for specific carriageway closures are:

  • A27 Westbound 3 October up to and including 11 October
  • A27 Eastbound 10 October up to and including 17 October

During the time of the works, a clearly signed diversion will be in place. Westbound road users will follow the A26, A259 and A23. Road users travelling on the eastbound carriageway will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction. For further information, call 0845 6122 888 or email area4enquiries@aone.uk.com

September was competition time again at SussexFood and this time it was open to everyone, staff and students alike.

All entrants had to do to be in with a chance of winning a massive £100 worth of Munch Money was to simply follow us on any one of our social media outlets, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

The names of every single person who followed us throughout September were entered into a draw but in the end there could only be one winner and that person is … drumroll please … Jumaani Ahmad Haskins.

Congratulations to Jumaani, a student from Pennsylvania currently completing a semester abroad here at the University of Sussex. More information.

Towards a vision of education for sustainable development in Africa

The second International Conference on Education Research for Development in Africa (ICERDA) is being held in Accra from 3-5 October 2016.

This conference has been jointly organised by the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sussex and the College of Education at the University of Ghana.

ICERDA, at which Emeritus Professor Keith Lewin will be the opening keynote speaker is organized around the theme of advancing “Towards a Vision of Education for Sustainable Development in Africa”.

This conference marks the culmination of a two-year project funded by the International Partnership Development Fund (IPDF) at the University of Sussex. The fund supported a visit to the University of Sussex in February 2015 by a delegation from the University of Ghana led by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana at that time, Professor Ernest Aryeetey, and included colleagues from the newly established College of Education.
