Stanmer Park festival affects campus access on Saturday 17 September

A music festival in Stanmer Park on Saturday (17 September) will affect any students and staff who are planning to travel to or from campus that day.

Special travel arrangements have been put in place for the Boundary Brighton festival, which runs from 12noon to 10.30pm.

  • Vehicles’ access to and exit from the University campus will be maintained; marshals will be stewarding on Stoney Mere Way, at Knights Gate Road and at the A27 underpass
  • Stoney Mere Way will be restricted to one lane during the event, with temporary traffic lights in place
  • There will be a separate pedestrian route for festival participants
  • Buses (numbers 23 and 25) will be diverted through to the event drop-off at Stanmer Park before coming on to the University campus
  • Arrangements for buses at Falmer station will be similar to those on football match days, i.e. the layby will be closed to prevent unofficial drop-offs
  • Trains will not stop at Falmer station after 9pm.

The campus Sport Centre will be open until 8pm on the day of the festival (with the majority of pre-booked sessions taking place before 6pm).

The Students’ Union at Sussex is one of the official partners for the Boundary Brighton festival and it is one of the Students’ Union freshers events.

Brighton and Hove Albion FC do not have a home match at the Amex stadium on 17 September; the Seagulls will be playing away that day at Burton Albion FC.

City council submits Heritage Lottery bid for Stanmer Park plans

Brighton & Hove City Council has submitted its latest bid for lottery funding to secure a £5.8 million restoration of Stanmer Park, which is situated next to the University of Sussex campus.

Stanmer’s 485-hectare estate boasts a nationally significant Grade 2 listed landscape and stable block plus 16 Grade 2 listed buildings in addition to the Grade 1 listed Stanmer House.

The Stanmer Estate Restoration Project aims to restore around 20 hectares of the park’s landscape, as well as its Grade 2 listed buildings.

The council is hoping for a £3.7 million grant towards the project and plans to cover the remaining costs through match funding and revenue. A decision is expected in December 2016. More information.
