Sussex Abroad team welcomes international colleagues on campus

Representatives from 17 of Sussex’s international exchange partners will attend a week-long Erasmus+ Staff Training week on campus from 16-20 May.

Orange logo of Generation Study AbroadThrough a dedicated programme of workshops and information sessions, participants will have the opportunity to share ideas and insights into keys issues in international education, while at the same time learning more about studying at Sussex and experiencing the cultural life of Brighton.

In addition to those colleagues attending from European partner institutions, the Sussex Abroad team will welcome colleagues from Monash University (Malaysia), College of Charleston (USA) and École de Gouvernance et d'Économie de Rabat (Morocco).

These last three represent three of the partner institutions with which the Sussex Abroad team have been running Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) projects in 2015/16. Launched in 2014, this Erasmus+ initiative is designed to encourage greater collaboration between European universities and those outside of Europe. In this first year of the scheme, Sussex was fortunate enough to have three projects approved for funding.

Emily Sinclair, Head of International Programmes, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming colleagues from such a wide variety of our partner institutions abroad. This week gives us the opportunity to deepen the excellent working relations we have with partners around the world. It also allows us to showcase everything Sussex has to offer as a study abroad destination for incoming exchange students.

“We welcome more than 500 visiting and exchange students to Sussex each year. The contribution they make to the academic and social life on campus is very much valued. Events such as this one help colleagues from partner institutions abroad learn more about the fantastic range of modules available to their students.

“Developing strong working relationships with our exchange partners means that we can extend the wide range of study abroad opportunities available to our own degree-seeking students through Sussex Choice.”
