Plaques recognising the support provided to students through donations to The Sussex Fund have been installed at 15 locations across campus.

The Sussex Fund provides vital support to areas of the University were funding isn’t otherwise readily available, such as hardship support, specific scholarships and enriching the student experience on campus. In 2015, over £217,000 was donated by hundreds of alumni, staff and friends of the University.

To recognise contributions towards the student experience, the 15 plaques are located in parts of the campus where measures have been taken under The Sussex Fund to make it easier for students to come together to study or socialise with each other:

  • spaces have been set aside in schools to allow students to come together over a coffee or a cup of tea

  • The Badger, University Radio Falmer and UniTV have been provided with a refurbished media suite

  • new toys and equipment have enhanced the family room in Norwich House, providing student parents with an improved space to socialise, play with their children and receive health visitors

  • some of the most active student societies in the country have been able to seek financial support for travel, training, and activities from the Students’ Union societies hub

  • in conjunction with Sussexsport, The Sussex Fund has provided grants to women’s volleyball, fencing, athletics and equipment such as the outdoor basketball court on campus

Regular Giving and Legacies Manager, Ben Loxton, said: “It is brilliant to see The Sussex Fund – which plays such a large, but understated, part in student’s lives – being recognised in this way. We hope the plaques will connect our current students to those alumni and friends of Sussex who have given so generously, and continue to support the University’s future.”
