Falmer station to close at 5pm on Friday and Tuesday

Southern Rail have advised that, owing to “safety concerns”, Falmer station will close at 5pm today (Friday 12 August) and on Tuesday (16 August).

Southern rail strikesBrighton and Hove Albion Football Club have home matches at the Amex stadium opposite the University of Sussex campus at 7.45pm on both of those days.

Because of a rail strike that had been called for Friday, match supporters will be dropped off and picked up at various bus stops outside the University of Brighton and along Village Way, before and after Friday’s match.

Twenty-four additional coaches will be in use and therefore roads are likely to be very congested all around the stadium. Unfortunately, although Friday’s strike has now been called off, the decision came too late for the club to change these arrangements.

Additional stewards will be on duty to manage fans’ travel to and from the stadium, but bear in mind that there may be delays.

To assist the football club in what has been a complex and difficult undertaking, the University has agreed that, for the matches on Friday and Tuesday, the club may use additional parking spaces on the Sussex campus – but only once they have been vacated by university personnel.
