Next stage of VC recruitment coming up

During March, the next stage of the recruitment process for the new Vice-Chancellor will take place.

Chair of Council, Chris BrodieChristian Brodie

Prospective candidates have now been shortlisted by the selection panel, headed up by Christian Brodie, Chair of the University’s governing Council, and preparations are under way for this next stage.

Each candidate will be required to take part in a comprehensive interview with the selection panel, undergo a media interview assessment and participate in three focus-group sessions.

The focus groups will be made up of a cross-section of staff and students, who have been specifically selected for this exercise. Each group will be chaired by an independent member of Council and will discuss key University and sector issues with each of the shortlisted candidates.

The three focus group chairs and subjects are:

  • Sir Peter Knight – Research and Teaching & Learning
  • Martin McCann – The Student Experience
  • Kirstin Baker - Running of the University

Christian Brodie said: “Throughout the recruitment process, we have been keen to ensure that both staff and students have been able to play an active role in putting forward their views.

“This next stage is an important part in this interactive process and the focus groups will allow representatives from our campus community to get to know the shortlisted candidates, be questioned by the candidates on some of the vital issues for the University, and engage in relevant discussions with them.”

Following this stage of the recruitment process, the selection panel will consult with Senate (the University’s academic body) on the candidate to appoint as new Vice-Chancellor and will then make a recommendation to Council.
