Sussex Impact Day on Tuesday 14 June is now fast approaching and limited spaces are still available for some sessions. The event is for all Sussex researchers (from doctoral students to professors) and research support staff.

Share your thoughts on impact with the Vice-Chancellor and external policymakers
The Opening Panel (10.00-11.00am) will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Michael Farthing, with a panel of external policymakers and experts including Alice Frost (HEFCE), Vanessa Cuthill (ESRC), David Phipps (York University, Toronto) and Paul Manners (National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement).
The panel will explore “With or without the REF: Why an impact focus is vital for researchers”. They are hoping for a lively discussion, with a variety of views on impact represented, so come along and make your voice heard. Book now

Are you a researcher who works with – or simply cares about - public sector organisations? Our workshop on ‘Impact on public services – the user’s perspective’ (1.30-2.30pm, G22) is for you. Speakers from Sussex Police, public health, and the local authorities, will discuss how research reaches those who deliver public services, and how successful academic/public services partnerships are built. Do you want to influence national policy? Come to ‘Achieving impact in UK policy’ (2.30-3.30pm, Jubilee G22). This is a chance to gain practical understanding of policy audiences and mechanisms for users to take up your research. Jonathan Breckon, Head of the Alliance for Useful Evidence, will present, with responses from Sarah Schepers, Head of Strategy at SPRU, and others, chaired by Professor Paul Nightingale, Director of Impact Acceleration. Surgery sessions - with Professor Paul Nightingale (Director of Impact Acceleration), commercial advisors from the Sussex Innovation Centre, and the Library’s Open Access support team - are available. Finally, do you think research and its positive effects on the world are worth celebrating? Join us to celebrate the achievements of your colleagues at the Sussex Impact and Research Awards Reception (5.30-7pm in the Jubilee Atrium). Canapes and wine will be served whilst the Vice-Chancellor presents awards to outstanding early-career researchers and to researchers creating significant changes in the world. All colleagues are welcome, but booking is required.
