Did you study at Sussex? Claim a small reward for staying in touch

I love Sussex mugClaim a free souvenir mug in return for registering on SussexSphere, our online community that allows you to update your profile details and find friends you may have lost touch with since graduating.

We know that many former students come back to Sussex to work, but not everyone remembers to update their details with us.

As a member of the Alumni Network you get invited to events on and off campus, receive monthly newsletters and - if you leave the University at any point - you can continue to get discounts in the Sport Centre and at local hotels, and get an alumni code to continue getting NUS Extra card discounts.

Now, for a very limited time, we are offering the chance to claim a free souvenir mug in return for registering on SussexSphere, our online community that allows you to update your profile details and find friends you may have lost touch with since graduating.

Mugs can be collected from either Sussex House reception or the Lewes Road information centre, when you show your registration confirmation. This offer starts on Tuesday 7 June and will be on a first-come, first-served basis while our stocks last!

Help the University make decisions at the highest level

Professional Services staff will soon have an important opportunity to vote one of their colleagues on to the University's Senate, the highest academic decision making committee at Sussex.

The position is currently held by the School of Law, Politics and Sociology Administrator, Mrs Lynn Gibbs. Once she steps down, the new Professional Services Senate representative will hold the post from 1 August 2016 to 31 July 2018. The other Professional Services Senate representative is Mr Matthew Tiernan, whose tenure will end in July 2017.

An email will be sent to all eligible staff members on Monday 6 June asking for nominations. Completed forms must be returned to Governance Officer, Kate Knight by 12 noon on Friday 17 June. If voting is required this will take place from 22 June to 4 July.

Later in June, academic staff will have an opportunity to vote one of their colleagues on to Council – the University’s governing body.

The position is currently held by economics professor, Mariana Mazzucato. Once she steps down, the new academic representative on Council will hold the post from 1 August 2016 to 31 July 2019.

An email will be sent to all eligible staff members on Monday 13 June asking for nominations. Completed forms must be returned to Kate by 12 noon on Friday 24 June. If voting is required this will take place from 29 June to 11 July.

Please keep an eye out for emails from the Governance office and carefully consider nominating yourself or a colleague for these significant roles.

VC’s open staff forum on Thursday 16 June

Staff have been invited to the last VC’s open staff forum of the academic year on Thursday 16 June.

The forum provides staff with an opportunity to catch up on the latest developments within the University and contribute to discussions about how it is run.

At the last forum on 12 February, technology was trialled that allowed staff to pose questions to the VC anonymously using a mobile phone or tablet during the event.

This resulted in a lively Q&A session and due to its popularity this facility will be made available again – so please bring your devices with you. Full instructions on how to ask a question in this way will be provided on the day.

The event takes place from 2.00pm - 3.30pm on Thursday 16 June in the Terrace Room of Bramber House. To add this event to your Outlook calendar, just log in via this link: https://www.sussex.ac.uk/its/exchange/calendar_vc
