Staff enjoy boundary walk

More than 120 members of staff gained an insight into the history and geography of the University last week (1 May) as they were led on a guided walk of the campus boundary by plant and wildlife expert Dr Martyn Stenning.

The staff were taking part in the ninth annual walk of the University’s 2.5-mile-long boundary, organised each year by Sussexsport.

Aaron Munnery from Sussexsport said: “There was a fantastic turnout for the boundary walk, and it was great to see so many people enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the University. Hopefully the event will encourage staff to be more active.”

The walk marked the start of a month-long health and wellbeing challenge for staff called ‘Commit To Get Fit’.

The challenge gives members of staff a chance to team up with their colleagues and work together to be more active throughout May.

Professor Clare Mackie, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), said in a speech at the start of the walk: “I want to thank all staff who have taken on the challenge to be more active and try new activities – I hope you enjoy Commit To Get Fit.”

More than 200 staff across 20 teams are taking part in the challenge.

The annual boundary run will this year happen on Wednesday 27 May, during the final week of the challenge.
