Tyndall Assembly to address policy challenges of climate change over the next 10 years

A conference on campus in September will provide a platform to demonstrate the extensive climate-related research taking place across the University of Sussex.

This year's Tyndall Assembly, an annual conference organised by the Tyndall Centre, is taking place at Sussex from 9-11 September.

The theme of the event is Policy Challenges of Climate Change: The next ten years, which will explore, in the context of the COP Paris negotiations in December 2015, how political barriers to the successful implementation of climate policies can be overcome, and how climate policies can be accelerated in the next few years to bring about the transition to low-carbon, more sustainable economies.

As well as a series of themed talks by members of the Tyndall Centre, there will also be a public lecture by Michael Jacobs, Senior Advisor on International Climate Policy at the IDDRI (Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations) in Paris, and a public panel discussion featuring Caroline Lucas, MP for Brighton Pavilion Green.

The Tyndall Centre is a world-leading climate research organisation involving eight core UK university partners - East Anglia, Manchester, Oxford, Cambridge, Cardiff, Southampton, Newcastle and Sussex - as well as Fudan University in China.

The centre was founded in 2000 and has produced key evidence-based research that has been extensively drawn upon by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), various governments, businesses and NGOs.

Tyndall research is interdisciplinary, bringing together scientists, economists, engineers and social scientists, as well as working with business leaders and policy advisors.

Registration for the Assembly, which will be taking place in the Conference Centre in Bramber House, is open until 26 August.
