Careers and Employability Centre achieves quality standard
The University’s Careers and Employability Centre (CEC) has achieved re-accreditation to a national quality standard for its information, advice and guidance services.
An external assessor for the matrix Standard visited the University for two and a half days in autumn 2013 and met academic staff, employers, students, graduates, the President of the Students’ Union, senior managers and the CEC team to assess the delivery of the careers service against three aspects: leadership and management; resources; and service delivery.
A range of excellent practice was identified, demonstrating that CEC is delivering an impartial and objective service within the context of the University’s employability agenda.
The matrix assessor commented: “The evidence suggests that a dynamic careers and employability service is finding innovative ways of working within a higher profile location in the Library and delivering a range of new careers education, information, advice and guidance initiatives successfully.
“The service is proactively engaging new student clients through induction and through a broad range of employability accelerator programme events.”
An annual continuous quality plan has been established, which requires further discussion in relation to the University’s development of employability.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), Professor Clare Mackie, will be unveiling the matrix Standard certificate in the Careers and Employability Centre on Monday (3 February) at an event to celebrate CEC’s re-accreditation achievement.
Among the employers attending the celebration who met with the matrix assessor will be Dan Cowan from Brightminded (a small team of web, social and mobile developers in Brighton) and Holly Price from international bank Santander.
Also there will be academic faculty Dr Sarah King (School of Psychology) and Dr Julie Litchfield (School of Business, Management and Economics), who contributed to the re-accreditation process.
