Give your thoughts on proposed tweaks to structure of academic year

Sussex staff are being invited to have their say over proposed tweaks to the structure of the academic year from 2014-15.

A main driver behind implementing the current structure in 2012-13 was to accommodate a mid-year assessment period as well as exams and assessment in the summer. During the consultation period in 2011 and 2012, four out of five students voted for this aspect of the current structure.

Following a University-wide  review, which took into account comments from staff and students, a working group is suggesting some minor changes to that structure.

The tweaks would create two self-contained semesters and improve the amount of time between assessments.

You can see the current structure and the proposed structure online and submit your feedback on the proposed changes in a short online survey.

The survey will stay open until 12 noon on Friday 16 May.

The working group will then take on board the comments and make any necessary adjustments, before a final proposal is presented to Senate, the University’s academic body, on 13 June.
