Maggie worked at the University for 22 years: beginning as a Library Assistant from 1991 – 2001 and then moving to Student Systems until 2005, when she joined the Counselling team.

Mel Withers, Director of UCS, says:

“Maggie is remembered with great affection by all who knew her. As a colleague she was both efficient and reliable whilst contributing her unique human warmth and sense of humour, which made everybody’s job somehow easier. Within the counselling service where the work can be emotionally challenging she retained an unfailingly cheerful outlook.

“For students, Maggie was the first point of contact with the service and is remembered for her endless patience and kindness when handling enquiries – often from those in some distress. Students regularly commented on the difference she made when they were struggling - and how she helped them to get the help they needed.

“Our thoughts are with her husband John, daughters Nicky and Emma and their families at this difficult time. She will be much missed.”

Her funeral will be held on at North Chapel, Woodvale Crematorium, Lewes Road, Brighton on Friday 15 November at 9.45am.

Staff and students who wish to pass on their thoughts to Maggie’s family can sign a book of condolence at UCS reception.

UCS is next door to the Health Centre at the residential end of the campus, opposite East Slope.
