Alumni golf society (USPGA) also open to staff

An alumni golf society being launched by the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) will also be open to staff.

Golf ball by holeThe University of Sussex Peripatetic Golf Association (USPGA) will offer a chance for the University community to enjoy together the magnificent Sussex Downs, renewing old acquaintances and making new ones.

All golfers are warmly invited to play in the inaugural competition, which will be hosted by James Hirschfeld, Professor of Mathematics, at his club, The Dyke Golf Club, Brighton, on Wednesday 8 October.

The Dyke Golf Club (Par 72) course is situated only four miles from the centre of Brighton and is easily reached from the A23 and A27 main roads. The course is widely acknowledged as one of the finest downland courses in the region, and, despite being at an altitude of 200 metres, has some of the characteristics of a links course, not least the fast greens and sea breezes.

The format of the day will be informal and friendly, with a Stableford competition. Longest drives and nearest the pin prizes will also be awarded. There will be tea, coffee and bacon rolls upon arrival and the first nine holes will be followed by a buffet lunch.

The day will end with drinks and prize giving in the clubhouse. (Normal clubhouse dress code; jackets are not required.)

It is hoped this will become an annual event and the peripatetic nature of this society affords members the opportunity to host the competition at their club.

The cost for the day will be £59. A limited number of buggies, booked in advance, are available directly from the golf club. To secure your place, book online.
