Still time to take part in research on perceptions of Sussex

Sussex staff have until Sunday (6 July) to take part in a piece of research commissioned by the University to explore how it is perceived by various audiences.

An online survey for staff is part of a five-month long programme of extensive and intense research that has already included more than 100 in-depth interviews and a dozen focus group discussions with staff, students and partner organisations.  

Alumni, current and prospective students, prospective staff, teachers and employers are also being surveyed.

Katy Hiles, Head of Marketing, explained: “The research is helping us to find out how we are viewed and how people think we are doing, with a view to clarifying and developing our offer to staff, students, schools, colleges and recruitment agents.”

All staff received a link to the survey - which takes only about ten minutes to complete - by email on 23 June. Katy said: “This is a great opportunity to say how you see the University of Sussex.”

The research is being conducted by an external research agency, SMRS, and individuals will not be identified in the reporting.

The University last undertook work to develop its institutional brand 10 years ago. That piece of work led to a significant change to the University’s logo and visual identity.

The work being undertaken now will provide feedback on how perceptions have changed in the intervening period and what the University needs to do to position itself for the next few years.

The external research agency, SMRS, will be reporting findings from the end of July, with final recommendations scheduled for autumn 2014.
