May fitness challenge begins with boundary walk
More than 140 members of staff gained an insight into the history and geography of the University on Wednesday (1 May) as they were led on a guided walk of the campus boundary by plant and wildlife expert Dr Martyn Stenning.
The staff were taking part in the seventh annual walk of the University’s 2.5-mile-long boundary, organised each year by Sussexsport.
Professor Michael Davies, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) handed a trophy for the most participants to the 27 walkers from IT Services.
Luke Terrill from Sussexsport said: “It was really great to see so many people enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful surroundings of the University today. Hopefully this event will inspire staff on campus to be more active in May and beyond.”
If you feel inspired to check out the beautiful countryside around campus, pick up a leaflet about the waymarked boundary walk or see it online.
This year’s walk marked that start of a month-long health and wellbeing challenge for staff called ‘Commit To Get Fit’.
The challenge gives members of staff a chance to team up with their colleagues and work together to be more active throughout May.
More than 180 staff across 18 teams are taking part in the challenge.
The annual boundary run – which in previous years has taken place at the same time as the walk – will this year happen on Wednesday 29 May, during the final week of the challenge.
