Sussex invests £5m in new global research scholarships
The University of Sussex has launched 50 new Chancellor’s International Scholarships for overseas postgraduate research students over the next five years.
Speaking last week at the University’s graduation ceremonies in the Brighton Dome, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Michael Farthing, said: “Since its foundation, Sussex has attracted outstanding academics and leading thinkers from across the globe.
“A vital part of our research work at Sussex involves postgraduate research students. They are the next generation of academics who will change the world.
“In celebration of our 50th anniversary, I am delighted to announce that more than £5 million will be invested in creating 50 new Chancellor’s International Scholarships, dedicated to supporting our future academic stars.”
The awards will be open for applications from November 2012 onwards, for entry in 2013. Students from any discipline can apply. They will cover three years of tuition, maintenance and the costs of research training.
In addition, 25 half-fee Chancellor’s International Scholarships will be offered to eligible applicants for 2013 entry to postgraduate taught courses.
These scholars will sit alongside the very best students from the UK and Europe, who can apply for more than 60 prestigious studentships, funded by the various research councils, that are secured by the University each year.
