The Students’ Union has received a national award for improving its services to members.

The Union has been taking part in the Students’ Union Evaluation Initiative (SUEI), an assessment project run by the National Union of Students (NUS).

The SUEI measures how well the Union makes connections with its members, and the impact that it has on students, the University and the local community.

At a ceremony in Westminster’s Portcullis House on 7 December, Sussex was one of six students’ unions to receive the SUEI Bronze Award for Stage 1.

David Cichon, the Students’ Union President, said: "It is great to see that all the hard work by generations of Union officers and staff has been recognised.

“The SUEI report was very encouraging as it shows that we are on the right track to becoming the leading Students' Union we aim to be and are radically improving student participation, engagement and representation."

The SUEI assessment process back in May 2011 included a series of focus groups with students, Union staff and full-time officers, and University senior managers. The Students’ Union also submitted evidence of particular things that had been done well.
