Sussex celebrates 50th anniversary with New York alumni

Sussex alumni attended a 50th-anniversary reception at the British Consulate-General in New York on 1 December.

New York reception with alumni and the Vice-ChancellorThe event, attended by 100 guests, was co-hosted by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Farthing, and the US Director of UK Trade & Investment, Nick McInnes. 

In a keynote speech, chemist Professor Sir Harry Kroto addressed the future of science and its role in knowledge-based economies. Professor Kroto won a Nobel Prize in 1996 for his work at Sussex on the discovery of the C60 molecule; he is now at Florida State University. 

Nearly 8,000 Sussex alumni live in the USA.
