The Marlowe Society has awarded the 2011 Calvin & Rose G. Hoffman Prize for "a distinguished publication on [Elizabethan playwright] Christopher Marlowe" to doctoral student Ros Barber for The Marlowe Papers (the verse novel she wrote for her Sussex DPhil). 

Fourth-year Chemistry undergraduate Gavin Roffe won a poster prize at Imperial College London at a meeting on 7 December of the National Service for Computational Chemistry Software (NSCCS). The MChem project that Gavin presented was initiated by the research he carried out over summer 2011 as a Junior Research Associate (JRA) at Sussex. The four judges were unanimous in their decision to award Gavin the prize for best poster, even though the others presenting work were generally PhD students.
