Head of the School of Education and Social Work
Professor Peter Aggleton will be stepping down as Head of the School of Education and Social Work at the end of the autumn term and taking up a Professorial Fellowship based in the National Centre in HIV Social Research at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Michael Farthing, thanked Peter for his contribution to Sussex as the first head of the School of Education and Social Work and said: “Peter and his colleagues in Education and Social Work have worked well to establish a strong and effective school.
“As one of the founding heads of the new school structures, Peter has also been part of the wider change and development of Sussex which has proved so successful.”
Peter Aggleton said: “When one looks at the strength of our teaching, research and other activities; the new staffing appointments that have been made, and others are now in process; strengthened relationships with the wider University; and the improvements under way in Essex House [the building where Education and Social Work is based], there is much to be proud of.
“I personally have learned an immense amount from my time at the University and will leave with many wonderful memories. I will always think fondly of my time here at Sussex, and wish both my colleagues and the School every success in the future.”
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), Professor Clare Mackie, is discussing interim management arrangements with colleagues in the School and the University expects to announce those arrangements shortly, while the appointment process for a permanent successor is under way.
