ROYAL SOCIETY EXCHANGES WITH JAPAN, KOREA & SOUTH EAST ASIA: Awards for study visits in Japan, Korea & SE Asia and fellowships in Japan. Areas of interest: natural sciences, mathematics, engineering, non-clinical medical research and the scientific research aspects of psychology, archaeology, geography, agriculture and the history of science. Annual closing dates: 20 September, 6 December, 7 October.

ROYAL SOCIETY EXCHANGES WITH CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICA, INDIAN SUBCONTINENT, AFRICA & MIDDLE EAST: Awards for visits to and from the UK, for scientists of postdoctoral status in the natural sciences.

ROYAL SOCIETY EUROPEAN SCIENCE EXCHANGE PROGRAMME: to promote the mobility of researchers within Europe. Study visits are normally between 10 days and 3 months(6 months may be considered).

ROYAL SOCIETY EXCHANGES WITH AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND AND CANADA: Awards for study visits to exchange ideas and information, learn new techniques, develop international collaborative links and enable participation in international programmes. Fellowships for young British postdoctoral scientists. Closing date annually: 17 May.

ROYAL SOCIETY SCIENTIFIC EXCHANGES WITH THE FORMER SOVIET UNION: Several schemes covering research in the natural sciences including mathematics, engineering, non-clinical medical research and the scientific research aspects of psychology, archaeology, geography and the history of science. No closing dates given.

OTHER ROYAL SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES: conference grants for British scientists to attend international conferences overseas. The Society's Research Grants Scheme includes overseas field research grants.

BBSRC/ROYAL SOCIETY/EPSRC INDUSTRY FELLOWSHIPS SCHEME: to promote the interchange of scientists between academia and industry. Closing date: Mid- December1996.

UK/NETHERLANDS: The British Council offers grants for international travel and subsistence only for research visits between 1 week and 2 months. Closing dates 31 January 1997 and 30 June 1997.

BBSRC/EPSRC MATHEMATICAL MODELLING, SIMULATION AND PREDICTION OF BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS: New interdisciplinary programme aimed at developing new, generic mathematical and statistical approach which address the important issues of nonlinearity, stochasticity and heterogeneity which characterise most biological systems.
