Appraisal process kicks off

Next Article | Contents

It's that time of year again, when staff meet with their line manager to review progress over the past year, take stock and plan for the forthcoming year.

All appraisal meetings should take place by the end of May (except appraisal of academic faculty, which should be completed by the end of June).

Each school and unit should by now have an appraisal implementation plan, with:

The Staff Development Unit (SDU) is running workshops for all categories of staff; new managers and new members of staff (within their first year of employment) or existing staff with no experience of appraisal are required to attend appraisal training. Workshop dates are available from the SDU.

In addition, the SDU is running workshops on a school-by-school basis for faculty who will be appraising their academic colleagues for the first time.

All senior managers will produce a summary report (covering the number of staff appraised and any issues arising) to enable the compilation of a University appraisal report for the summer Council meeting. "These reports will make an important contribution to the University's evaluation of the new appraisal scheme and its initial implementation," says Sarah Strupinksi, Deputy HR Director (Staff Development).

See the appraisal documentation and workshop dates.  Alternatively, contact Sarah directly for hard copies and/or additional advice. Call ext. 7188 or email s.m.strupinski@sussex.ac.uk.
