Online tools will prepare students for University life

Undergraduate students arriving at Sussex in October will be able to access new online resources to help them settle in to academic life.

The Teaching and Learning Development Unit (TLDU) is coordinating a project that will provide a single online gateway to existing study resources and to new interactive tutorials, which are being specifically created for this project.

In addition to making study skills more accessible, the gateway will also help students find their way around university in their first few weeks and months.

Professor Joanne Wright, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) said: “Research has found that the first year is the most crucial in determining whether students will continue with their studies and in influencing their attitudes and approaches to learning.

“This project is vital in helping new students at Sussex feel they are part of an academic community.”

An initial audit has found over 300 online study skills resources currently in use at Sussex and Clare Hardman, the student experience project coordinator, would like to hear from everyone who has been involved in developing these. Contact Clare by email (c.l.m.hardman@sussex.ac.uk) or visit www.sussex.ac.uk/sapp and contribute to the blog or discussion forum.
