Swedish staff visit Sussex

Next Article | Contents

A group of 11 administrators from the University of Gothenburg have spent this week (7-11 June) on campus to improve their English and to learn about Sussex.

During their stay the Swedish visitors each shadowed the work of a Sussex colleague, enjoyed walking tours of campus and of central Brighton, had a number of language-training sessions, and heard talks on various relevant topics from members of staff at Sussex.

The staff development course is the latest initiative to arise from the long-standing links between the two institutions: since 1975 Gothenburg has been offering its undergraduates the opportunity to study English language and literature at Sussex.

Some students on the Gothenburg programme major in English and other modern languages, but many opt to do English as a separate course or as part of a degree in the social sciences, natural sciences, economics or business studies. See www.sussex.ac.uk/Units/gothenburg/

Dr Ulf Dantanus, director of the Gothenburg programme at Sussex, said: “The staff development course is a new venture and we're hoping that it will be a mutually beneficial arrangement.”
