'GOOD' for Primary PGCE

The Primary Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) course received 'good' in all aspects of a recent OFSTED inspection of training and quality assurance. Three HMIs spent five days looking at every aspect of the course, including University workshops and training in six Sussex Consortium schools. Some sessions were judged 'excellent', and several strong features of the course were identified, such as the cross-school moderation visits made by all participating teachers. The Course Team were praised for having made significant improvements to the course since the last inspection. Dr Vivienne Griffiths, Course Director, reports: "We were confident about the quality of the training provided, but it is good to see this confirmed officially by the inspectors." Vivienne is particularly appreciative of the support shown by the primary schools in accommodating visits by inspectors at a time when teachers were busy with nativity plays and other Christmas activities.
