THE BRITISH ACADEMY, HUMANITIES RESEARCH BOARD - Institutional Fellowships Scheme: to provide awards to meet the cost of fellowships to support research projects that are linked to institutions' own research schemes and priorities. Closing date: 28 February 1997.

ESRC GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE PROGRAMME FELLOWSHIPS: Applications for awards of 6-24 months' duration invited. Research proposals should address one or more of the following topics: environmental assessment techniques; citizens and sustainability; business initiatives in the environment; waste management and energy efficiency. Closing date: 4 February 1997.

ODA COMMISSIONED RESEARCH PROGRAMME ON URBAN DEVELOPMENT - Call for Statements of Capability: to contribute to achieving ODA's mission by informing policy and practice in developing and transitional countries; by contributing to the improved design of assistance programmes of aid donors; and by informing the policies of developing countries where they affect developing and transitional economies. Closing date: 24 January 1997.

MRC RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS 1996/97: to provide an opportunity for high calibre non-clinical postdoctoral scientists, up to lecturer or equivalent level, to gain specialised or further research training in the biomedical and related biological sciences fields within the UK. Closing date: 17 January 1997.

MRC TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIPS 1996/97 COMPETITION YEAR: to enable clinical and non-clinical workers in the biomedical field with at least two years of postregistration or postdoctoral experience to undertake a period of advanced specialised research training overseas. Closing date: 3 March 1997.

MAFF ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF THE COUNTRYSIDE STEWARDSHIP SCHEME: Invitation to tenders for a three-year study concerned mainly with an evaluation (in relation to lanscape, wildlife and historical objectives) of management agreements formed under the scheme. Closing date: 7 February 1997.

MRC FRENCH EXCHANGE FELLOWSHIPS 1996/97 COMPETITION YEAR: to enable clinical and postdoctoral non-clinical workers in biomedical fields to undertake a period of research training in a suitable centre in France and hence strengthen links between scientists and institutions in the two countries. Closing date: 3 March 1997.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY MEDIA FELLOWSHIPS: to provide opportunities for scientists from any area of science to experience first-hand how the media work. Fellows spend four to eight weeks working with a newspaper or magazine, or in radio or television. Closing date: 31 March 1997.
