Margot

Margot Richardson, the Marketing Manager for CCE (the Centre for Community Engagement), died on 23 March in the Martlets Hospice in Hove.

Margot began work in the central Communications Division in 2004, and became a key member of the Publications and Branding team.

Katy Hiles, her manager at the time, recalls: "Margot inspired immense affection and respect, which entirely reflects her own style. Memorably, and most wonderfully, she once said, when asked the secret of successful working with occasionally recalcitrant colleagues, 'I tend to adopt a multi-pronged charm offensive, which usually works eventually.'

"Margot was hugely empathic, which was perhaps the real secret of her charm: she never failed to appreciate another's point of view, but also managed to see things from a range of other angles, too."

Margot joined the CCE team in 2005. She brought to CCE a wealth of knowledge and experience from many years of working in the commercial publishing sector, and she was rightly proud of her postgraduate qualification in marketing, gained while working with us.

Margot had a keen eye for detail and a flair for design that was evident in all our publications and marketing following her appointment. We shall all miss her purposeful attitude to the work in hand and her energy.

But it was her personal qualities that made her such a key part of the CCE team. She was always kind and generous, and immensely funny. We will all miss her friendship, her loyalty and the laughter we shared.

Margot is survived by her husband Gus, their son Oscar, and Charlie the dog.

Pam Coare, Director of CCE
