Research funding opportunities

EPSRC Collaboration between Chemists and Chemical Engineers
Applications are invited for multi-disciplinary research projects, research networks and visiting fellowships. Areas of particular interest are: combustion; reactor engineering; process safety; green chemistry and clean technology; and the post genome challenge.
Deadline: 5 January 2001

New Leverhulme Trust Initiative in Materials
The Trust intends to award a major grant of up to £2 million for a 5-10 year programme in the fundamental properties of materials. The core expenditure should be on academic posts and can be a combination of established posts, postdoctoral fellowships and graduate studentships.
Deadline: 26 January 2001

Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation
One- to three-year scholarships enable individuals to undertake pioneering or original work of intellectual, scientific, social or environmental value. The average total award is £6,500 with a maximum of £10,000 pa. Funding can cover equipment, seminars/conferences, travel and/or general project costs.
Deadline: 1 February 2001

New ESRC Postdoc Fellowships
These awards will fund new researchers for one year immediately after the completion of their doctorate. Applicants must have completed their doctorate within two years of 1 October 2001. Applications are welcome from all relevant disciplines but must be made through institutions.
Deadline: 5 February 2001

National Lottery Charities Board Funding
The new research grants programme will support medical research and social research in the areas of health and social well-being. Three-year grants of up to £250,000 will be available. Universities are eligible if they are working in partnership with charities, voluntary and community groups.
