Professor Mary Hunter, a music undergraduate in CCS from 1970-74 and now at Bowdoin College, has been awarded the American Musicological Society's Kinkeldy Prize (shared with Thomas Mathiessen) for the best musicology book published in 1999, The Culture of Opera Buffa in Mozart's Vienna. Professor Michael Nicholson (SOC) has been elected an Academician of the Academy of Learned Societies in the Social Sciences (ALSIS). Professor Peter Smith (SOC) has been elected President of the International Association of Cross-Cultural Psychology. The Pulse narrowly failed to take top prize in the NUS/Independent student media awards, announced on 18 November. The termly magazine was runner-up not only for best student magazine, but also for best small-budget publication.
