Course outline

The course examines the foundations of congitive science: what kinds of explanations can cognitive science provide and how do representation and computation play a role in these explanations?

Topics covered include:
* The nature and role of folk psychology
* The representation theory of mind
* The possibility of a language of thought
* Intentional systems theory
* Connectionism as a cognitive architecture
* The role of rules in cognitive explanation
* The casual efficacy of the mental
* Eliminativism
