A bibliography of Channel Islands French and the general linguistic situation in the islands to 1997

Richard Coates

The main body of this book is an annotated bibliography of the linguistic situation in the Channel Islands. It is built around a catalogue of the small - but in recent years markedly increasing - output of scholarly writings on the dying Norman-French dialects of the Channel Islands, and a selection of works on Romance philology, Channel Islands onomastics (name-study), general sociolinguistics and dialect literature to serve as a context for them. To these have been added a fair number of popular and ephemeral writings on the same topics, in the somewhat pious hope of achieving complete coverage of the subject up to October 1997.
