We present here a collection of papers arising from the second Cognitive Studies Postgraduate Workshop at the University of Sussex's "White House" conference centre, Isle of Thorns, September 1989. This event organised by Dr.David Young, has taken the form of a three-day residential meeting for research students and faculty of the School of Cognitive And Computing Sciences (COGS). The workshop included brief presentations by the participants describing their work, and group discussions on related issues.
