Rebuilding the blocks tutor

The authors discuss a reconstruction of the intelligent tutoring system for a mathematical game based on attribute blocks, first implemented by Brown & Burton (1978). A concept learning approach was adopted for representing the BLOCKS domain and a "glass-box" expert developed. A strategy for student modelling was implemented that combines incompleteness (overlay) and incorrectness (mal-rules) of the student's knowledge.
