The Expert Systems in Teacher Education Project attempts to apply Expert Systems technology to a social domain: the domain of the school-based teacher-tutor who is adviser on classroom practice to the trainee teacher. Through the development of the Trainee Teacher Support System (TTSS), we have formalised a model of classroom processes which is represented within a prototype implementation of the TTSS as an augmented transition network. The authors describe this model and details of how it was constructed; and discuss its representation and function within the specified system. A hypothetical scenario is constructed as a demonstration of the system's outward appearance.
