The research programmes at IDS are organised in six closely linked multidisciplinary teams, and several international, multi-partner research projects are hosted at the Institute. Through collaborative ways of working IDS aims to establish creative and equal partnerships in which research agendas are driven by Southern perspectives.
In all of its work, IDS aims to challenge conventional thinking, to generate fresh ideas that foster new thinking on development policy and practice. Such problem-focused thinking requires a commitment to interdisciplinarity, not just across social sciences or even sciences, but across research, communication and learning.
