Managed redeployment procedure
Managed Redeployment Procedure
The Managed Redeployment Procedure is designed to reduce the number of potential job losses through redeploying staff currently at risk of redundancy, where suitable alternative employment can be found. The Procedure has been the subject of consultation over recent weeks with the three recognised trade unions.
The procedure was sent to all staff at risk of redundancy in hard copy on 29 January 2010 with a covering letter providing a summary of the procedure.
FAQs are also available and were added here on 16 February.
Redeployment Register
Athough the University is still in a period of consultation on the proposed redundancies, staff at risk of redundancy are now being given the opportunity to place their name on the University's Redeployment Register, should they wish to be considered for suitable alternative jobs may arise, irrespective of any subsequent redundancy decision.
Employees who opt to join the Redeployment Register will have exclusive access to apply for any vacancies authorised by the University's Vacancy Panel as potential redeployment opportunities. Where such a vacancy cannot be filled by an employee on the Redeployment Register, the vacancy will next be opened up to other staff within the University. If still not filled, the post would then be advertised externally. By such steps, the University aims to increase the opportunities for redeployment for staff at risk of redundancy.
Redeployment vacancies
All redeployment vacancies will be listed as they become available:
Vacancies were posted here from Friday 5 February onwards.
When a new vacancy is posted to this site, staff who have opted to be placed onto the Redeployment Register will receive an email indicating the job title and giving a weblink which will take them to further information about the vacancy.
Joining the Register
We are asking that "at risk" staff who wish to be placed onto the Redeployment Register provide a CV in a standard format and also complete a short questionnaire. (See documents below.) By doing so, this will provide clear and consistent information which will be used when management shortlist applicants for interview. The provision of information in a standard format will also mean that staff on the Redeployment Register do not have to submit an application for every job for which they wish to be considered.
- Redeployment questionnaire [DOC 55.50KB]
- Guidance notes on CVs - Professional Services staff [PDF 23.09KB]
- Guidance notes on CVs - academic staff [PDF 32.22KB]
Expressing interest in redeployment vacancies
Once registered on the Redeployment Register, if a member of staff is interested in a particular vacant post they would simply have to express their interest by sending an email to redeployment@sussex.ac.uk by the specified closing date.
As HR would already have the CV and questionnaire submitted, no further submission of documents would be required. Once shortlisting had taken place for the post, the member of staff would be advised of the outcome to this process and whether they will be called for interview.
