USS consultation

To give your response on the proposed changes to USS visit:

---------------------------

The Universities Superannuation Scheme ("USS") is the national pension scheme for universities which covers academic and academic-related staff.  It is separate from the University of Sussex Pension and Assurance Scheme (USPAS) and the Sussex Group Stakeholder Scheme (SGSS) which are the local pension schemes for clerical, manual, ancillary and technical staff at Sussex.

Introduction
Like all final salary schemes, USS is subject to the same cost pressures as other private sector schemes, and changes are now needed to ensure that it remains sustainable, attractive and affordable.

A package of proposed changes to USS has been put forward by the USS Joint Negotiating Committee, and approved by the USS Trustee Board, subject to a consultation of affected members and of their representatives, in accordance with statutory regulations.

Consultation is now being undertaken by USS employers. The consultation will run from Wednesday 20 October until Wednesday 22 December 2010.
