Asbestos Awareness
Who should attend?
Anyone who works in a role where they may come into contact with asbestos containing materials (ACM) or staff who are responsible for managing others who may come in to contact with ACM e.g. Project Managers overseeing contractors.

To gain a basic understanding and awareness of asbestos.

Biological Safety Officer (BSO) Training
Who should attend?
Newly appointed Biological Safety Officers, or those wishing to gain an understanding of the key issues of biological safety.
Why attend?
To gain a basic competency in biological safety.
What will the course cover?
The course runs over two days and covers:
- relevant legislation
- the role of the Biological Safety Officer
- risk assessment
- hazards and risks associated with biological agents, cell cultures, genetically modified organisms (GMO's), and laboratory animals
- laboratory management
- transport of biological material
- waste disposal of biological material
- use of key equipment
This course is interactive and includes case studies and a design exercise. A short course assessment will be undertaken by delegates at the end of the course.
The Biological Safety Officer training is an external course organised by the Medical Research Council

Health and Safety Workplace Inspections
Who should attend?
Health and Safety Co-ordinators or Health and Safety Leads, who have responsiblity to carry out workplace inspections.
Why attend?
To gain a better understanding of the hazards associated with your areas, and the control systems that should be in place to ensure the safety of staff, students, contractors and visitors.
What will the course cover?
- how to carry out an inspection
- looking at what needs to be inspected and assessed
- who you should invite to attend
- the recording template
- remedial action processes
Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP)
Who should attend?
Anyone who has responsibilities for any staff, student, visitor or contractor who may have difficulty in evacuating from a building in the event of an emergency.
Why attend?
To understand the issues associated with aiding staff, students, visitors and contractors who may have difficulties in evacuating from a building in an emergency.
What will the course cover?
- Principles of emergency evacuation;
- Identifying who needs a PEEP
- How to develop a PEEP
- How to 'rehearse' a PEEP
