The University of Sussex has been ranked 32^nd in the UK and fifth in the South East, according to a new university guide.

The University’s strong standing in the region was confirmed this week in the TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk 2020 University League Tables.

Three subjects taught at the University have been ranked among the top 10 in the country: American Studies (2^nd), Drama (2^nd) and Anthropology (7^th). 

The University was ranked 25^th in last year’s Complete University Guide league table. 

Adam Tickell, Vice-Chancellor, said: “Even though we’ve dropped a few places, I’m pleased to see that our overall score has improved and we are doing extremely well in some subjects. 

“Collectively, we must continue to do everything we can to enhance the student experience, which is of course the driving force behind our Sussex 2025 vision.” 

The Complete University Guide measures universities across 10 metrics, eight of which change year on year (the other two, for research, relate to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework).

Of these eight variable measures, Sussex has improved across five – entry standards, graduate prospects, student/staff ratio, academic spend per student and facilities spend per student – and fallen in three – student satisfaction, good honours (the proportion of firsts and 2:1s awarded) and completion (of degrees).
