Biography

Originally from Brixton, South London, I first came to Sussex as an undergraduate in 2008. I am now a Teaching Fellow based in the School of Global Studies. My PhD research was concerned with Road Life (or street culture) in the United Kingdom, my PhD thesis was entitled: Life On Road; Symbolic Struggle and the Munpain.  The thesis critically examined issues of social exclusion, inequality, racism, political rhetoric relating to individual responsibility, aspiration as well as limited social mobility and opportunity; highlighting them as a plethora of issues contributing to everyday difficulties (the munpain) experienced in the lives on young adults in Britain.

I am also interested in alternative education and have been active in helping to cultivate learning spaces beyond more conventional curricula. I work actively with students at Sussex to help create and promote new spaces and methods for learning.
