  • This year sees a big rise in demand for places across the curriculum: 14,000 applicants for nearly 2000 places; seven applicants per place, five times the national average. These boom years for student applications are partly to do with national context
  • Still need to attract more working-class students
  • Accent Scholarships helps to widen participation
  • Alumni Jeremy Deller wins the Turner Prize and praises Sussex Art Historian David Mellor
  • Three hundred undergraduate degrees and 180 taught postgraduate programmes are offered
  • Imogen Taylor (ED) and Celia Hunt (CCE), both in the Sussex Institute, win National Teaching awards
  • CCE student Georgina Rebera wins Adult Learner of the Year Award
