- University now has 17 research centres
- The Arts Centre (later named the Gardner Centre) opens. One aim is to bridge the gap between Brighton and the University. Dr Walter Eysselinck is the Director. Richard Attenborough is the Chair of the Arts Centre Board. There are plans for a film-maker-in-residence programme for the Centre
- Park Village opened. University hopes to have a third of the student population living on campus. Park houses and Park Village are just the beginning
- Fifty-five students complete the Early Leavers' Scheme between 1964 and 1970. The scheme has justified itself and has raised the question of more mature, less qualified students being admitted
- A Large Astronomical Union conference is held in the summer – the biggest ever held at the University
- Geoffery Lockwood Planning Officer reports that between 1972-77 the student body will increase to 6,000 and there will be a third academic area
