- Asa Briggs is to be appointed as VC in October 1967
- Staff Associations are formed for non-academic staff, and staff development is taken more seriously
- Administration moves from Stanmer House to Essex House: formerly a student residence which has been given over for temporary use until the administration block is completed
- IDS moves to Stanmer House
- A car park is built and are fees charged – there is a great deal of debate over this
- The Isle of Thorns is thriving – has to turn business away
- African and Asian Studies (AFRAS) moves from Essex House to Stage II Arts building in October 1966
- Educational Studies also moves into the building
- Falmer Nursery Group opens in January 1966, taking 20 children aged from three to five each morning. There is a long waiting list for places
- Quentin Bell is the Chair of History and Theory of Art. Law is to be added to the syllabus next year. Italian is introduced as area of study
- Difficulties in the Year Abroad for students studying Russian – often they have to make do with visiting a family outside Russia or a Russian department in another university rather than actually go to Russia
