I really wanted to do something about the way students communicate to the University, because you know there's no need to have massive demonstrations if you feel like there is an outlet and you are being heard and that your opinion is valid. So I wanted to be in this job to lobby the University to take the student views more into consideration, and to make structures so that that could take place. So I've been working a lot with the student rep scheme which has been really rewarding. So there's something like at the moment 250 elected students across campus who volunteer their time to input into the way the University is run, and it's kind of one of those things that's sometimes seen by academics and by students as just a bit of a formality, that it's a bit boring and tedious so I really wanted to kind of remind everyone how useful and important it is, and have more competitive elections, to have more … so that more people are aware of what opportunities there are there. I hope it's made a bit of a difference, but it's one of those things that will have to be built on year on year.
