David Streeter joined Sussex in 1965 and is currently Reader in Ecology.
In those days starting, everybody said yes to everything you suggested so I tentatively said it would be nice to build a field centre, and they said ok design it. So I designed from scratch this field centre, field laboratory where students would go and do their ecological fieldwork and we could do some research and it would be attached to this rather nice conference centre. So you had rather smart accommodation with a brand new field centre. And that was quite exciting, it really was. So all the students went there every year, and at the same time I took them off to another part of the country for their second year, or the beginning of the third year I think it was in those days to get some experience of the landscape.
