Jim Stanford, American Studies undergraduate 1977-1981 and active member of Gay Soc.
By the end of the first term I had also joined the Men's Group. . . It was a group for men who were aware about sexual politics. At that point there was only really the feminist movement in the 1970's but, and you had the sexual liberation of the gay movement which had started in 1969 in America and 1971 here in its modern version and so I suppose the Men's Group was part of the men's movement which was sort of sexual liberation or sexual equalities seen from the male standpoint. Which I was a member of, getting in touch with one's emotions, with being able to touch and communicate with other men, that sort of thing. Which was actually a stepping stone for me towards coming out.
